Gene Description USP8, ubiquitin specific peptidase 8, is an endosomal deubiquitinase (PMID: 16771824) that plays a role in diverse cellular functions through the regulation of protein trafficking and stability (PMID: 31845722), including signaling molecules such as MET (PMID: 16520378), EGFR (PMID: 16120644), and ERBB2 (HER2) (PMID: 21044682). Mutations in USP8 have been identified in pituitary neuroendocrine tumors (PMID: 38691659), and USP8 fusions have been identified in chronic myeloproliferative disease (PMID: 9582025) and spindle cell tumors (PMID: 30266618), decreased expression of Usp8 has been observed in breast cancer (PMID: 30132974), and overexpression has been observed in cervical squamous cell carcinoma (PMID: 30010158).
