Gene Description CDKN1A, cyclin dependent kinase inhibitor 1A, also known as p21, is activated by Tp53 and may be the mediator of Tp53 inhibition of cell proliferation and induction of apoptosis (PMID: 10090408) and functions in the DNA damage response (PMID: 20096807). Loss of Cdkn1a may enable cell proliferation and migration in gastric (PMID: 29602637), liver (PMID: 29408622), bladder (PMID: 29602637), and osteosarcoma cancers (PMID: 29115549) and decreased expression in chromophobe renal cell carcinoma is associated with decreased survival (PMID: 32079343).
