Gene Description CENPA, centromere protein A, is a centromere-specific histone variant that is required for centromere function and plays a role in mitotic progression, cell survival, and chromosomal stability (PMID: 26601620, PMID: 28069312, PMID: 24614311). CENPA overexpression has been identified in several tumor types including hormone receptor-negative breast cancer (PMID: 27062469), colorectal cancer (PMID: 12839935), and lung adenocarcinoma (PMID: 22542705).
