Gene Symbol RNF139
Synonyms HRCA1 | RCA1 | TRC8
Gene Description RNF139, ring finger protein 139, encodes an E3 ubiquitin ligase that is involved in multiple cellular processes via protein ubiquitination and degradation activity (PMID: 22689053, PMID: 22143767) including inhibition of cell growth (PMID: 12032852, PMID: 17016439), degradation of misfolded proteins through the ER-associated degradation pathway (PMID: 26210183, PMID: 19720873), and cholesterol homeostasis (PMID: 22143767, PMID: 22939900). Translocations in RNF139 have been identified in hereditary renal cell cancer (PMID: 9689122, PMID: 24813807) and dysgerminoma (PMID: 19642973).
