Synonyms BPS2 | IKBKA | IKK-1 | IKK-alpha | IKK1 | IKKA | NFKBIKA | TCF16
Gene Description CHUK, component of inhibitor of nuclear factor kappa B kinase complex, encodes a serine/threonine kinase that phosphorylates the negative regulator of NF-kappaB, Ikba, which leads to NF-kappaB activation and subsequent regulation of genes involved in cell proliferation and survival (PMID: 9346484, PMID: 17183360, PMID: 19648011) and innate and adaptive immunity (PMID: 17361131, PMID: 18606991), and targets additional substrates including Irf7 (PMID: 19648011), playing a role in inflammation (PMID: 17361131, PMID: 18606991). Decreased expression of Chuk and CHUK mutations have been identified in squamous cell carcinoma (PMID: 17079494) while increased expression of CHUK has been identified in hepatocellular carcinoma (PMID: 19728335).
