Gene Description DCC, DCC netrin 1 receptor, encodes a cell adhesion protein which mediates directional axon growth and neuronal signal transduction in response to netrin ligand, and induces apoptosis in the absence of ligand (PMID: 11986622, PMID: 15343335, PMID: 15811950). Inactivating mutations, decreased expression, and loss of DCC have been observed in a variety of cancers (PMID: 15573119), including colorectal (PMID: 15310786), gastric (PMID: 9828817), neuroblastoma (PMID: 9288786), breast (PMID: 12908825), and ovarian (PMID: 20054719).
