Gene Description

E2F1, E2F transcription factor 1, encodes a transcription factor belonging to the E2F family of transcription factors (PMID: 15538380) that plays a role in regulating expression of genes involved in the cell cycle (PMID: 15838517), mediating cellular responses to DNA damage (PMID: 22180494), and regulating cell proliferation (PMID: 11719808). Increased E2F1 expression has been observed in prostate cancer (PMID: 26891801), whereas decreased expression has been observed in breast cancer (PMID: 18751386), and a fusion with SRF has been observed in soft tissue myoepithelioma (PMID: 28947952).
