Gene Description AGO4, argonaute RISC component 4, is one of four members of the Argonaute (AGO) protein family that regulate micro-RNA (miRNA) mediated gene silencing (PMID: 18771919, PMID: 27518285) and AGO4 may also play a role in antiviral defense (PMID: 32049003) and methylation of miRNA's in conjunction with DNMT3A (PMID: 32098627). AGO4 has been demonstrated to be downregulated in hepatocellular cancer (PMID: 23398123) and overexpressed in colon cancer (PMID: 20146808).
