Gene Description

FOXO1, forkhead box O1, encodes for a protein belonging to the family of forkhead box O transcription factors, which plays a role in multiple cellular processes including cell cycle arrest, apoptosis, and prevention of reactive oxygen species (PMID: 18715783). FOXO1 fusions are frequently observed in alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma (PMID: 24334454), including FOXO1-FGFR1 (PMID: 21666686), PAX3-FOXO1 (PMID: 24334454), and PAX7-FOXO1 (PMID: 12865925, PMID: 8187070).
