Synonyms APG4B | AUTL1 | HsAPG4B
Gene Description ATG4B, autophagy related 4B cysteine peptidase, encodes a cysteine protease that plays a role in the generation of the autophagosome by mediating the processing and deconjugation of Atg8 (PMID: 28901328, PMID: 30076329, PMID: 15187094) and is suggested to act as a protective protein upon intestinal inflammation, thereby potentially maintaining homeostasis (PMID: 23782979). Increased ATG4B expression has been observed in colorectal cancer (PMID: 24991826) and chronic myeloid leukemia (PMID: 24755409).
