Gene Symbol PHGDH
Synonyms 3-PGDH | 3PGDH | HEL-S-113 | NLS | NLS1 | PDG | PGAD | PGD | PGDH | PHGDHD | SERA
Gene Description PHGDH, phosphoglycerate dehydrogenase, encodes a metabolic enzyme that catalyzes the first step of the serine biosynthetic pathway (PMID: 30575741), and plays a role in heme production in endothelial cells (PMID: 30017355) and apoptotic response following serine starvation (PMID: 25404730). Increased PHGDH expression has been observed in several tumor types including colorectal cancer, melanoma, and breast cancer (PMID: 32226297), a fusion with FGFR3 has been observed in thalamic oligodendroglioma (PMID: 29872711), and a fusion with FGFR2 has been observed in intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (PMID: 31109923).
