| Gene Description | FBXO4, F-box protein 4, is a component of a SCF (SKP1-CUL1-F-box protein) E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase complex that mediates the ubiquitination and subsequent proteasomal degradation of target proteins (PMID: 18598945), cyclin D1 (CCND1) and telomeric-repeat factor 1 (TRF1) (PMID: 29142209). FBXO4 is the E3 ligase for CCND1 and inactivating mutations in FBXO4 may cause CCND1 overexpression, leading to oncogenic transformation (PMID: 18598945) in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma and melanoma (PMID: 29142209). | ||||||||||
