Gene Description GYG1, glycogenin 1, encodes for the enzyme protein, glycogenin, which adds glucose residues to itself, thereby acting as a catalyst for glycogen synthesis (PMID: 28683291, PMID: 31791869). ESR1 fused to GYG1 has been identified in ER-positive, HER2 (ERBB2)-positive breast cancer (PMID: 29360925) and altered expression has been observed in prostate cancer (PMID: 31576646).
