Gene Symbol HLA-G
Synonyms MHC-G
Gene Description HLA-G, major histocompatibility complex, class I, G, is a nonclassical member of the human leukocyte antigen class I histocompatibility complex that functions as an immune checkpoint by binding to inhibitory receptors expressed by immune cells, including natural killer cells, T cells, and B cells (PMID: 18334671, PMID: 18249584) and plays a role in immune suppression (PMID: 24839609) and maternal-fetal immune tolerance (PMID: 33213057, PMID: 15857883). Expression of HLA-G has been reported in several tumor types (PMID: 33001562), including ovarian carcinoma (PMID: 30802770), melanoma (PMID: 28882620), and breast cancer (PMID: 24870375).
