Gene Description

HSPB1, heat shock protein family B (small) member 1, encodes a molecular chaperone of the HSP20 family, which plays an important role in protein refolding in response to cellular stress and is also involved in cell migration, differentiation, cytoskeletal organization, and evasion of apoptosis (PMID: 24138636, PMID: 25339975, PMID: 28144778). HSPB1 overexpression has been identified in several cancer types (PMID: 26874923, PMID: 31878360) and has been associated with poor outcomes (PMID: 27512624) and treatment resistance (PMID: 20101233, PMID: 30156165, PMID: 30471115).
