Gene Description

IGF1, insulin like growth factor 1, encodes for a growth factor protein involved in mediating growth regulatory processes that occur during embryonic development and adult life typically via the IGF-1 receptor (IGF1R) (PMID: 9032050). Elevated serum levels of Igf1 have been observed in colorectal cancer (PMID: 31884074), dysregulation has been associated with resistance to chemotherapy (PMID: 32186268), and Igf1 may play a role in epithelial-mesenchymal transition in breast, lung, and gastric cancers (PMID: 30111747).
