Gene Description FASLG, Fas ligand, is a TNF-related type-II transmembrane molecule that binds to the Fas receptor, activating downstream pathways to induce apoptosis (PMID: 18673218), and plays an important role in programmed cell death in the immune system, contributing to the cell-mediated cytotoxicity of T cells and NK cells (PMID: 7505205, PMID: 11048730, PMID: 18673218). Germline mutations in FASLG have been identified in autoimmune lymphoproliferative syndrome (PMID: 36621650, PMID: 16627752) and increased expression of Faslg has been observed in several tumor types (PMID: 25656654), including colon cancer (PMID: 15962391) and breast cancer (PMID: 10640988).
