Gene Description

MXD1, MAX dimerization protein 1, encodes a basic helix-loop-helix transcription factor that functions as a transcription repressor (PMID: 9111304, PMID: 10786671), suppresses rDNA transcription (PMID: 15282543, PMID: 27588501), and inhibits cell proliferation and apoptosis (PMID: 15722557, PMID: 10744730). Increased Mxd1 expression has been observed in breast cancer (PMID: 22778409), myelodysplastic syndrome (PMID: 24095110), and esophageal cancer (PMID: 18493233), whereas decreased expression has been observed in gastric cancer (PMID: 10203593) and a fusion with NUTM1 has been reported in tumors of soft tissue and viscera (PMID: 29356724).
