Gene Description

MCAM, melanoma cell adhesion molecule, also referred to as MUC18, is a cell surface glycoprotein involved in cell-cell adhesion (PMID: 11739172), and binds to several ligands to regulate angiogenesis (PMID: 22718841, PMID: 32782280) and cell migration (PMID: 24335906). Differential expression of MCAM has been demonstrated in several tumor types (PMID: 32782280, PMID: 30815677), including overexpression in melanoma (PMID: 39945026) and ovarian carcinoma (PMID: 25510693).
