Gene Symbol MUTYH
Synonyms MYH
Gene Description MUTYH, mutY DNA glycosylase, encodes for an enzyme that is part of the base excision pathway, which is responsible for excising an adenine that was inserted into the DNA to pair with the oxidation base lesion, 8-Oxoguanine (PMID: 21235684). Germline MUTYH mutations have been linked to an increased risk for colorectal cancer development (PMID: 29147111, PMID: 31724937), and have been associated with an elevated risk for breast cancer (PMID: 21952991).
