Gene Description PKM, pyruvate kinase M1/2, encodes an enzyme involved in glycolysis that catalyzes the transfer of a phosphate group from phosphoenolphosphate to generate pyruvate (PMID: 20857498), and plays a role in maintaining cell metabolism (PMID: 26277545) and regulates gene expression through its kinase activity (PMID: 22306293, PMID: 21620138). The M2 isoform of PKM has been demonstrated to promote tumorigenesis (PMID: 18337823), and increased expression has been associated with esophageal, gastric and colorectal cancer (PMID: 17301655) and lung cancer (PMID: 12017309).
