Gene Symbol PLK1
Synonyms PLK | STPK13
Gene Description PLK1, polo-like kinase 1, is a serine-threonine kinase that regulates mitotic events and cell cycle progression in the transition of metaphase to anaphase during mitosis (PMID: 30414309, PMID: 27888710). Overexpression of Plk1 has been observed in metastatic tumors including, prostate, lung, neuroblastoma, and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, where Plk1 leads to chromosome instability, aneuploidy (PMID: 24667170, PMID: 23227884, PMID: 30414309), and resistance to chemotherapy (PMID: 27330107).
