Synonyms FADK | FADK 1 | FAK | FAK1 | FRNK | p125FAK | pp125FAK | PPP1R71
Gene Description PTK2, protein tyrosine kinase 2, encodes for a focal adhesion, non-receptor protein tyrosine kinase (PMID: 31791326), which once activated via integrins, signals various molecules involved in the regulation of cell proliferation, apoptosis, survival, and migration (PMID: 12371144). Increased activation of Ptk2 has been observed in ovarian cancer, which has been linked to PTK2 amplification (PMID: 24755674), and overexpression in breast, ovarian, colorectal, and lung cancers has been associates with decreased survival (PMID: 31791326), and a circRNA of PTK2 has been implicated in tumor growth and metastasis in colorectal cancer (PMID: 31973707).
