Gene Description TYMS, thymidylate synthetase, encodes an enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of deoxyuridine monophosphate and methylenetetrahydrofolate to thymidylate and dihydrofolate, which is an essential step in DNA biosynthesis (PMID: 8867733, PMID: 28634233), and acts as an RNA-binding protein, playing a role in the translational regulation of gene expression (PMID: 8867733, PMID: 12084459, PMID: 1924359). Increased expression of TYMS has been identified in lung cancer (PMID: 21321092) and breast cancer (PMID: 33030246), and has been associated with colorectal cancer (PMID: 31423175).
