Gene Description | CA12, carbonic anhydrase 12, is a membrane associated enzyme that catalyzes the dehydration of carbonic acid and plays a role in regulating cellular pH and bicarbonate homeostasis (PMID: 28433659), and regulates the activity of the cellular transporters, including the chloride bicarbonate exchanger and the sodium bicarbonate transporter (PMID: 26486891, PMID: 37587861). Increased expression of CA12 has been identified in several tumor types including renal cell cancer (PMID: 9636197) and brain tumors such as hemangioblastoma, meningioma, and glioma (PMID: 16212811). | ||||||||||
