Gene Description COL18A1, collagen type XVIII alpha 1 chain, encodes the endostatin chain, which may play a major role in determining retinal structure and neural tube closure and the endostatin chain can inhibit endothelial cell proliferation and angiogenesis (PMID: 20361288; PMID: 21815140). Overexpression of Col18a1 has been associated with poor prognosis in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (PMID: 31598423).
