Synonyms BTBD32 | NEDMACE | NEDMIDF | NSDVS1 | NSDVS2 | TEF2
Gene Description SPOP, speckle type BTB/POZ protein, is a substrate recognition subunit of the cullin-RING E3 ligase complex and regulates degradation of proteins involved in hormone signaling, epigenetic regulation, gene transcription, cell cycle, and metastasis, thus plays dual roles in carcinogenesis (PMID: 31495053, PMID: 31901237). SPOP mutations are frequently identified in prostate (PMID: 20668451) and endometrial cancer (PMID: 23104009), while overexpression of Spop has been identified in renal cell carcinoma (PMID: 29801752).
