Gene Description CAT, catalase, is an antioxidant enzyme that prevents oxidative damage to cells by degrading hydrogen peroxide and is involved in the regulation of several cellular processes such as apoptosis, proliferation, and migration (PMID: 26117330, PMID: 12468545, PMID: 18485895). Decreased expression of CAT has been observed in squamous cell carcinoma (PMID: 12413611) and colon carcinoma (PMID: 10357777) while increased activity of CAT has been observed in chronic lymphocytic leukemia (PMID: 20658731).
