Gene Symbol AIM2
Synonyms PYHIN4
Gene Description AIM2, absent in melanoma 2, is an immune receptor that recognizes dsDNA shed during breakage (PMID: 31372985) to regulate assembly of the inflammasome, and induces apoptosis, and prevents proliferation of tumor cells (PMID: 21804607, PMID: 28243117). Loss of Aim2 expression has been observed in liver cancer (PMID: 27167192), results in Akt activation in colorectal cancer (PMID: 26107252, PMID: 28243117), may be prognostic for poor outcomes in renal cell carcinoma (PMID: 30031129), and is overexpressed in glioblastoma (PMID: 31280432).
