Gene Description MELK, maternal embryonic leucine zipper kinase, is a serine/threonine-protein kinase that plays a role in regulation of the cell cycle, cell proliferation, and apoptosis (PMID: 30334367). Overexpression of Melk has been observed in a variety of tumor types, including cervical cancer (PMID: 30334367), hepatocellular carcinoma (PMID: 29151817), breast cancer (PMID: 27225691), melanoma (PMID: 29212029), leukemia (PMID: 25365263), endometrial carcinoma (PMID: 31915116), and intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (PMID: 31861475).
